Tert-butyl Hydroperoxide, abbreviated as TBHP, is one of the most commonly used alkyl hydroperoxides. The commodity is generally a light yellow transparent non-volatile liquid, slightly soluble in water, and miscible with organic solvents. Butyl hydroperoxide is mainly used as an initiator for free radical reaction or polymerization reaction in industry. Compared with the decomposition products of most other initiators, it is acidic. The decomposition products of TBHP are tert-butanol (TBA) and a small amount of acetone. The equipment has no corrosion, so the requirements for the device are not high. The decomposition activation energy of the O-O bond in tert-butyl hydroperoxide is low, and it can be used as an improver to improve the cetane number of diesel. Tert-butyl hydroperoxide is a very important intermediate in organic synthesis. It is a cross-linking agent mainly used in the cross-linking of unsaturated polyesters under medium and high temperature conditions. Under the action of a metal catalyst, TBHP can also act as an oxygen donor to selectively oxidize unsaturated hydrocarbons such as acetals, allyl alcohol compounds, and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
