Polycarbonate film can be used to make capacitors, audio tapes, color video tapes, solar energy utilization devices, microwave heating systems, reverse dialysis membranes, and ultrafiltration membranes; its foam plastics have flame resistance and thermal insulation properties, and are used in the construction industry. However, polycarbonate has low fatigue strength and is prone to stress cracking. It is often reinforced with glass fiber to avoid the above shortcomings and improve many other properties. If it is blended with a variety of polymers, or various stabilizers, flame retardants and antistatic agents are added, new varieties can be obtained to expand its application range.
