Soluble in ethanol, acetone, benzene, petroleum, vegetable oil, chloroform, carbon methyl chloride. The solubility in water is only 0.0145. Light stable, poor thermal stability. Stable in neutral medium, hydrolyzed to sulfide sodium salt and diethyl fumarate in alkaline medium, hydrolyzed to sulfide and α-thiol diethyl succinate in acidic medium.
