Silver sulfadiazine, sold under the brand Silvadene among others, is a topical sulfonamide/silver antibacterial used as a topical cream on burns. Tentative evidence has found that other antibiotics are more effective than silver sulfadiazine, so it is not recommended by the authors of a Cochrane review when more effective options are available. Silver sulfadiazine is typically delivered in a cream or aqueous suspension. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the most important medications needed in a basic health system.
