Self-acid is a six-carbon straight chain carboxylic acid, the formula is C5h11cooh, derived from hexane. It is a colorless oily liquid with a sheep-like odor. It is a fatty acid which is naturally found in animal fats and oils and is one of the chemicals that cause the odor of rotten ginkgo fleshy seeds.
